It’s our job to be helpful, and now more than ever we want to prove that to the Southern California community.
Since the start the of COVID-19 pandemic, we have been lending a helping hand and volunteering with organizations that need it most. In the last month and a half, we’ve helped pack, sort, and assemble food packages at local food banks and have distributed food to residents at pop-up food pantries across SoCal. At the Second Harvest “Drive Thru Pantry” in Anaheim, one grateful family mentioned: “This is all so helpful for us. So many are struggling so anything helps. Thank you guys for being in the frontlines. Be careful out here.” Residents in line at Food Share Ventura County’s pop-up food distribution site in Santa Paula were equally thankful as we loaded the groceries into their car: “Thanks for the help loading, there needs to be more random acts of help and kindness in the world.”
We’ve also delivered meals to homebound seniors and assisted with prepping “grab and go food” for those who were still able to visit senior centers. At the Meals on Wheels OC “Grab and Go” program in Midway City, one senior was especially surprised to see us: “You’re sitting at home or in your car listening to one of these commercials and you think to yourself, ‘Why don’t they ever do stuff like that here?’ But here you are so I plan to tell everyone I know that Honda is the real deal.”
In addition to helping out at local food pantries and assisting the elderly during this time of need, we’ve also been fulfilling personal requests from local residents via our “Help Me Honda” request form on our website. One recipient was Blanca, a case manager for St. Joseph Center, who explained to us that her seniors were understandably afraid to shop for groceries and could use some cheer. So on the days leading up to Easter weekend, we surprised Blanca’s senior clients with big blue baskets filled with grocery essentials, spring crafts, and Easter goodies to help bring a smile to their faces and let them know we care.
So what’s next? To honor our heroic nurses for National Nurses Week on May 6 – 13th, we will be popping up at gas stations near hospitals across Southern California, to pump free gas for frontline healthcare workers as they drive to and from their shifts. We’ll also be delivering hundreds of Helpful Care Packages directly to local hospitals to brighten these nurses’ days.
We want you to know now more than ever, that we’re committed to helping our community. We are still taking submissions and requests for our Random Acts of Helpfulness. If you or someone you know needs help, or if you have suggestions on how we can be helpful in your community during this time, please send us your story. Due to the large amount of people requesting help at this time, we won’t be able to help everyone, but if possible we’ll do what we can to address your request.
