September and October were two of our favorite months! We celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and brought Hondaween cheer to thousands of SoCal residents.

This year, we helped celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the importance of food, family, and music in the Hispanic community.

We kicked off the month-long celebration by sharing a taste of the Hispanic culture with a traditional treat—paletas! We popped up at the Central American and Mexican Independence Day parades and surprised guests with free paletas. Most were surprised to see us there, but all were thankful for the complimentary treats; “How cool to see you here celebrating with us. Thanks!”; “You have my favorite paleta! I wasn’t expecting to see you here. Thank you.”

We continued the celebrations at the Fiestas Patrias in Lynwood where we honored a hardworking mom and her family with a Random Act of Helpfulness. We gifted them with $500 to use towards back-to-school clothes and supplies, and also surprised the mom with an additional $500 to pamper herself. The mom was so humbled and thankful be recognized. She was in awe once she realized her and her family were on the receiving end of a Random Act of Helpfulness.

To wrap up the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, we hosted a free pop-up concert in downtown Santa Ana featuring artist Kevin Ortiz and brought thousands of paletas and cooling towels to help families enjoy the show. One concert-goer was ecstatic we brought Kevin Ortiz out: “Kevin Ortiz? OMG he’s so amazing!” Another guest who enjoyed the festivities told us, “This is such a great, fun and safe event, thank you Honda.”

Following the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, we set out to spread Helpful Hondaween cheer in October by handing out free pumpkins and visiting underserved and at-risk children at local hospitals and youth organizations.

We visited local pumpkin patches across SoCal and surprised families with thousands of free pumpkins! Families from Ventura, to Lancaster, Whittier, Anaheim, Corona and everywhere in between received a scary-good surprise and were given a complimentary pumpkin and a Honda blue bucket for trick-or-treating. One recipient was delighted with our visit: “This is amazing guys. My day keeps getting better. First I meet you, and now you’re also buying my pumpkin!” Even the kids were excited to see us! A little boy was so thrilled with his free pail and pumpkin that his mom told us, “My son has asked to be a Helpful Honda guy for Halloween after he met you today.”

After popping up at local pumpkins patches, we brought Hondaween cheer to local children’s hospitals and organizations. We surprised undeserved children and at-risk youth with costumes, pumpkin decorating, Halloween arts and crafts, and games! At a local organization, the children competed in a costume contest, as they raced to dress up in the best costumes. One organization’s director was so thankful we were able to bring this celebration to their group: “This means so much to these families. A lot of them can’t afford costumes and pumpkins.”

So what’s next for us? With holidays around the corner, we’ll be bringing back our Tanker Truck of FREE gas for Honda drivers during the busy holiday traveling season. We’ll also be celebrating the holidays with our Helpful Honda treat truck and popping up across the Southland with free holiday treats for all.
