Summer may have ended but the Helpful Honda fun doesn’t stop!

School is officially back in session! The Helpful Honda Team welcomed the children of Southern California into the new school year with knowledge and joy. The Guys in Blue had their last School-Wide Helpful Book Donation at Melrose Elementary School, in Placentia, where they surprised over 450 students with their very own book! The team was welcomed with a special sign hand-made by the students. The sign expressed, “Thank you Helpful Honda from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks for igniting a passion for reading. Love, Melrose Elementary.” The students were extremely excited to personalize their books with their names and receive a bracelet to take home. As one of the teachers watched the children’s smiling faces, they exclaimed, “Please remember us for any help! Our school is made up of 60% unhoused children and their families.” As the back-to-school book drive season ends the Helpful Team in Blue was able to make one last stop at Lopez Elementary School where they donated English and Spanish books, notebooks, and pencil pouches to the library. Knowledge is power and we want all the children in our communities to feel powerful!

From celebrating students to celebrating culture the Helpful Honda team is always there. Hispanic Heritage Month is about highlighting the positive impact, presence, culture, and contributions of Latino and Hispanic Americans, and that’s what we set out to do! Throughout the month, the Helpful Honda team celebrated both by bringing back the Helpful Honda Paleta cart and with some Random Acts of Helpfulness. The Helpful Paleta carts were brought to local Hispanic Heritage Month community events and festivals, in Thousand Oaks, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and San Fernando Valley, to hand out free paletas to those who attended. One especially thankful attendee of the 21st Annual Baja Splash at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach expressed, “Thank you guys for the paleta! Helping keep us cool!” Another participant thought we were too good to be true, “We got free parking and paletas today too! You have done more than enough for us today.”

Beyond the sweet treats, the Helpful team was out with more Random Acts of Helpfulness. The Guys in Blue were able to help by providing food and entertainment for a food donation in Sherman Oaks, fulfilling a grant for a Hispanic-run design studio that provides help to entrepreneurs and small businesses or non-profits, and helping a young woman with a donation for upcoming projects she is doing with the youth-action group she started. It’s our job to be helpful and there is nothing better than helping those who are helping others too!

The treats didn’t stop there, it’s a Helpful Hondaween! The Helpful Team in Blue invited the residents of the Southland to Trick or Treat Yo’Self to a Pumpkin! The Guys in Blue surprised families at 16 local pumpkin patches with Blue Hondaween trick-or-treat bags and pumpkin vouchers! These surprises got everyone in the spooky season spirit. One family was especially inspired, “You guys are saints for being here. I wasn’t sure if I wanted a pumpkin but I’m definitely getting one now!” One couple was shocked, “We get a pumpkin and a cute backpack? Wow. It’s all just so amazing!” Hooray for Hondaween!”. Free Pumpkins was just the beginning of helpfulness this October!

SoCal Helpful Honda also surprised several children’s hospitals, Children’s Hospital in Orange County, Memorial Care in Long Beach, Dignity Health in Northridge, and Dignity Health in San Bernardino with a Hondaween event. These events are filled with Halloween costumes, decorations, toys, activities, treats, accessories, and finally, pumpkins to decorate for all the children to enjoy! We started at Children’s Health Orange County (CHOC). Not only were we celebrating Hondaween, but we were also celebrating the beloved mascot, Choco Bears, birthday. There were pumpkin and cookie decorating stations and even a table with a cartoon artist! Later, therapy dogs and Choco Bear himself stopped by to enjoy the fun. One grateful parent exclaimed, “Thank you. I haven’t seen my daughter smile like this since her surgery. She’s really excited to try her cookie.” Our second Hondaween event, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, was also a big hit! The children were ecstatic that they did not have to miss out on the Halloween fun this year. One nurse exclaimed, “He was devastated when we told him he couldn’t go trick-or-treating again this year. I think this has made up for it.” Helpful Honda believes that every child deserves to have a Happy Hondaween, and we were happy we could bring the Hondaween fun!

With the holidays up ahead look out for how the Helpful Honda Team will be giving back across Southern California, they will be helping with food donations, bringing back the Helpful Honda Wishing Tree, the Hondadays Treats Truck, and so much more!
